+++Decision pro Dominga.

The Environmental Impact Assessment Commission (COEVA) of the Coquimbo Region approved the Dominga project of Andes Iron on 11 August. "Defensa  ambiental" and "Alianza Humboldt" had already organized a signature campaign, as well as a demonstration in front of the building of the regional government in La Serena. In the weeks following the decision, many organizations and institutions – including state ones – protested against COEVA’s decision. A particularly prominent example is the open letter of Chilean scientists in the online edition of the Magazine “Science” in mid-September (see article, “Extractivist Policies Harms Chile's Ecosystems” - ed. Jennifer Sills).

+++Vom 5.-9. September 2022 sollte in in Viña del Mar, Chile die Welt-Pinguin-Konferenz stattfinden. Chile ist stark von COVID-19 betroffen. Das Auswärtige Amt der Bundesrepublik stuft Chile aktuell als Hochrisikogebiet ein. Die chilenische Regierung hat die Einreisesperre bis auf weiteres verlängert. Angesichts der Lage und der Unsicherheiten hinsichtlich des weiteren Verlaufs der Pandemie haben die Organisatoren die Konferenz um 1 Jahr verschoben.

+++ Since last year, Nancy Duman has been trying to launch an environmental education project in the coastal villages of the municipality of La Higuera. A first draft concept was not convincing and had to be revised. Now there is a new proposal, which - because of the preparations for the general meeting - could not yet be examined. +++ Under the slogan „Water for All“ and „Water is life“ Defensa ambiental organised a well-attended car demonstration on 26 January. The protest rally was - because of the pandemic - combined with a march of a few pedestrians, who were carrying protest signs and banners.
