Projects in Southern Chile
The habitat of the Humboldt Penguin lies on islands near the coast of Peru and Chile between the fourth and fortieth degrees southern latitude. This is where they breed and hunt.
The southern breeding areas of the Humboldt Penguin are off the island of Chiloe in the Los Lagos Region. Interestingly, this is where one also finds one of the only locations in the world where Humboldt and Magellan Penguin breeding areas overlap; one can see both species breeding on the island.
Further information, current developments, and other activities of Sphenisco in southern Chile can be found in this area of our website.
